Ward One - Shari Whalen

Shari Whalen was elected on November 4, 2014.
Shari Whalen, P.E was raised in Fernley and graduated from Fernley High School in 1993. She attended the University of Nevada, Reno, where she obtained her BS and MS in Civil Engineering. After working in southern Nevada for a short period, Shari moved back home to Fernley to raise her family. She and her husband, Dave, have three beautiful children (ages 5, 9, and 11).
Shari practiced Civil Engineering for over 15 years, working in both the public and private sector. She also started her own business here in Fernley, in 2013. Shari is a licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada and California, and is working toward her Certificate in Public Management. Most recently, Shari decided to follow her passion, and she started teaching at a local school.
Shari loves Fernley and believes that this is a community of great potential. With her technical background, vision, and small-town roots, Shari is invested in finding ways to improve the quality of life for residents of Fernley.
She represents ward one, a far-flung neighborhood stretching from the city / county boundary west of exit 46, and north of the railroad tracks to the easterly boundary near Hazen. Ward one contains all of the city north of Main Street and Highway 50A, the Desert Lakes Golf community, and east between Farm District Road and Highway 50A. This area is comprised of multiple land uses, ranging from residential and rural to commercial and industrial.
