Nevada plans to conduct an all-mail election for the June 9, 2020 primary election. All active registered voters in Nevada will be mailed an absentee ballot for the primary election. No action or steps, such as submitting an absentee ballot request application, will be required by individual voters in order to receive a ballot in the mail. Voters will be able to mark their ballot at home and then return it by mail using a postage-prepaid envelope or by dropping it off in person at a designated county location (location has yet to be determined). This announcement applies only to the June 9, 2020 primary election.

Registered voters will receive a Sample Ballot the end of April and Mail-in Ballot the first part of May.

March 2, 2020 the City Clerk’s Office will begin accepting Declarations of Candidacy. The following are up for election in 2020:

Voter Registration 

You can register to vote online at the Nevada Secretary of State Election Center. Voter Registration forms are available in the City Clerk’s Office, the Fernley Justice Court, Department of Motor Vehicles Offices, or the Lyon County Clerk / Treasurer’s Office in Yerington. Registration forms can be completed and dropped off at the City Clerk’s Office in Fernley or mailed to:

To register to vote in Lyon County a person must meet the following requirements:

  • Actually, physically, and legally reside in Lyon County
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Have attained the age of 18 years old by election day
  • Provide official identification as proof of residence and identity, such as a driver’s license or other official document
  • Provide social security number, Nevada driver’s license number, or Nevada identification card number
