Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant

The 2009 federal stimulus called for the Department of Energy to administer the Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. The purpose of this program is to assist eligible entities in implementing strategies / programs that:

City Strategy

The City of Fernley was one of several formula cities within Nevada to receive money. Fernley received $52,000, to develop an energy efficiency and conservation strategy (PDF). The strategy is a vision document, a fluid blueprint that will be updated periodically as technologies evolve and budgets warrant. The document formulates opportunities to select which strategies the City would desire to pursue in striving to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and activities the City could undertake to meet the goals of the EECBG program. Those activities include:

  • Energy and conservation resource and educational information on the City website
  • Energy audits at City facilities
  • Energy efficiency retrofits at City facilities
  • Pursue grant funding and partnerships to implement energy strategy activities
