Fernley Supports Small Business Saturday

At the November 1st Fernley City Council Meeting, Mayor Roy Edgington proclaimed November 25th as Small Business Saturday and urged the residents of our community, and communities across the country, to support small businesses and merchants on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.

The City of Fernley celebrates our local small businesses and the contributions they make to our local economy and community.  According to the United States Small Business Administration, there are currently 28.8 million small businesses in the United States, which represent more than 99% of all businesses with employees in the United States.  Small businesses employ 48% of the employees in the private sector, and are responsible for 63% of net jobs created over the past 20 years.  On average, 33% of consumers’ holiday shopping will be done at small, independently-owned retailers and restaurants.  91% of all consumers believe that supporting small, independently-owned restaurants and bars is important, and 76% of all consumers plan to go to one or more small businesses as part of their holiday shopping.

The City of Fernley and the Fernley Chamber of Commerce support our local businesses that create jobs and boost our local economy.  The Chamber is a non-profit membership organization created by the community to assist in the advertisement, promotion and referral of business members in the community and surrounding area. The Chamber sponsors events that help bring the spotlight into the area to boost revenue opportunities for local business members.  To find a list of local businesses to support, please call the Chamber at (775) 575-4459 or view their business directory at www.fernleychamber.org/find-a-business.

Small businesses play a key role in helping Fernley to thrive.  By shopping or dining at your favorite local establishment throughout the year, you will show your support for Fernley small businesses and make a positive impact in Fernley.
