On May 3, 2017 City Council passed a Bill 252, Ordinance #2017-003, amending Fernley Municipal Code, adding Title 6, Chapter 7 False Alarm Reduction to address excessive false alarms use of vital public safety resources. The City of Fernley partnered up with Public Safety Corporation to implement and enforce the ordinance. The Fernley False Alarm Program will go into effect October 1, 2018.

What does this mean to Fernley residents and businesses? If you’re not an Alarm User then this will not affect you. An Alarm User means any person, corporation, partnership, proprietorship, governmental or education entity or any other entity owning, leasing or operating an alarm system, or on whose premises an alarm system is maintained for the protection of such premises. An Alarm System means any single device or assembly of equipment designed to signal the occurrence of an illegal or unauthorized entry or other illegal activity requiring immediate attention and to which law enforcement is requested to respond, but does not include motor vehicle or boat alarms, fire alarms, domestic violence alarms, or alarms designed to elicit a medical response.

The City’s partner, Public Safety Corporation, will contact Alarm Users and Alarm System Businesses within the City of Fernley limits to register their alarm system or you can register your alarm online at www.crywolfservices.com/fernleynv. There is no cost to register your alarm. You may also contact the Fernley False Alarm Reduction Program at (855) 732-9027 Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm to register your alarm or if you have any questions. We at the City hope to substantially reduce the number of false alarms that the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responds to.”
