Message from the Fernley Municipal Court in response to COVID-19

In response to the State of Emergency declared by Governor Sisolak, Lyon County Board of Commissioners, Fernley City Council as well as direction from Chief Justice Pickering the Municipal Court will be suspending all non-essential proceedings for a period of at least 30 days.

Effective March 17, 2020, the Municipal Court will conduct business as follows:

All arraignments (traffic and criminal) and pretrials currently scheduled between March 21, 2020 through April 14, 2020 will be continued for a period of at least 30 days.

In-custody transport of defendants will be suspended for a period of at least 30 days.

Out-of-custody trials (traffic and criminal) scheduled between March 19, 2020 and April 16, 2020 will be continued for a period of at least 30 days.

In order to reduce social contact, the Municipal Court will encourage the use of electronic communications for the resolutions of cases, case reviews, and status checks. We will also be encouraging on-line payments.

The court will suspend the issuance of failure to pay warrants for a period of at least 30 days and will closely monitor the issuance of warrants for failure to appear.

Fernley Municipal Court staff is working on creating and providing defendants with options to resolve traffic issues on-line and creating processes that will allow court staff to assist defendants who are unable to pay their traffic tickets or scheduled fine payments.
