March 17th Letter to Residents from Mayor Roy Edgington, Jr.

March 17, 2020

To the Residents of Fernley:

On March 16, 2020 at 4:30 PM an emergency City Council meeting was held at City Hall to declare a State of Emergency by passing Resolution 20-006. This resolution passed unanimously by all Council Members, it will allow the City Manager and the Mayor to address staffing; monitor access of City buildings and grounds, modify utility billing if needed to help customers; follow Federal and State guidelines along with any other matters that are deemed necessary.

We realize during this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic we must incorporate social distancing when possible, but unfortunately people will be exposed and run the chance of becoming ill. Our government at all levels is working hard to address this issue.

These are the priorities for all government agencies:

  • Reduce and prevent the spread of COVID-19
  • Increase testing for COVID-19
  • Support local jurisdiction COVID-19 response and prepare for medical surge
  • Maintain continuity of Government/State employee safety
  • Maintain lifeline services
  • Maintain social safety nets
  • Mitigate state economic damage
  • Promote and set conditions for recovery
  • Coordinate Public Information Officers and information

As the Mayor, and on behalf of the Council Members and City Staff, we want you the citizens to know we are working very hard to keep things moving and the utilities operating. This COVID-19 respiratory disease is taken seriously, and you are asked to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.  If you have questions, please go directly to the CDC webpage for the facts and information relating to COVID-19.
