Elected to Office

Albert Torres is a 3rd generation Nevadan and has lived in Lyon County for more than 40 years. He’s made Fernley his home for the last 17. Albert has been married to his wife Julie for 15 years. They have two grown children. His hobbies include spending time with his family, traveling, baseball, hiking, riding his motorcycle, and working out. His term expires in 2024.

Professionally, Albert Torres dedicated 25 years of service to law enforcement in northern Nevada with his highest rank being the Undersheriff in Lyon County. He obtained an Executive Certificate from the Nevada Police Officer Standard and Training, credentials reserved for law enforcement officers at senior administrative levels. Albert graduated with honors from the FBI National Academy, Class #248, in Quantico, Virginia. The National Academy provided extensive leadership and management training as well as the opportunity for worldwide networking. He also achieved the “Yellow and Blue Brick” awards for physical fitness while he was in Quantico.

Albert worked his way through the ranks from Corporal to achieve the rank of Undersheriff. During his law enforcement tenure, Albert was a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) for 17 years and earned the team commander position. He implemented school lockdown drills for Lyon County School District and assisted other agencies in starting their lockdown process.He organized the first ever Street Enforcement Team (SET), which focused on tracking Lyon County’s Registered Sex Offenders, Gangs, and Drugs. He also served as the Terrorism Liasion Officer for Lyon County, allowing him to work with the State and Nevada’s other 16 Counties.As the Field Services Captain, Albert found the need for a Mental Health initiative for inmates in the jail. He became a founding member and Board Chairman for the Lyon County Mental Health Task Force and became a board member for NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Albert has attended countless hours of training and education for public entity budgets, Risk Management, Personnel Management and Leadership, Liability Reduction, Resource Logistics, and Communication.

Albert holds a degree in Criminal Justice, General Business, and Business Management. He was also a founding board member for the Fernley Girls and Boys Club. He is currently a substitute teacher for Lyon County School District.

Albert was appointed to the Fernley City Council in June 2019 to fill the vacancy left by longtime councilwoman Sue Seidl. He is currently serving on the City’s Water team, Legislative team, and is the Fernley Convention and Tourism Authority Co-chair.

Albert became a Fernley City Councilman to help guide the City during this critical time of growth. His experience and education provide him the ability to make good, educated decisions that benefit the residents of Fernley in a positive way. His main concerns as a Fernley resident and Councilman are: Water and Sewer resources, Public Safety, City Infrastructure, including water, sewer, and roads. Additionally, his desire to ensure our future growth is well planned and controlled. He believes strongly in open, transparent communication and urges anyone with questions or comments to contact him via phone or email at their convenience.
