Fernley, NV, September 3, 2019 – The City of Fernley is excited to announce the completion of the Hardie Lane Reconstruction Project. A Ribbon Cutting Event is scheduled for Thursday, September 5th at 10:00 am at the Fernley Intermediate School track. The public is invited to attend the ceremony, along with all project stakeholders, including A&K, NCE, Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Lyon County School District, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), NV Energy, Southwest Gas, AT&T, Charter, and City of Fernley elected officials and staff.
Completed in just under one year’s time by A&K Construction, the Hardie Lane Reconstruction Project extends from Main Street to Cottonwood Lane. The project included construction of curb and gutter along both sides of the roadway, installation of a storm drain system, a water main replacement, sewer main replacement, and a complete roadway reconstruction. Safety improvements include traffic calming measures around Fernley Elementary School and piping of the TCID TC-5 lateral from Westerlund Lane to Rachel Street. This project has been included in the City’s annual budget approval process since 2011. Funding for the project includes the City of Fernley’s contribution, as well as Regional Transportation Commission funding and NDOT funding. The total estimated project cost is $5.4 million.
“We recognize the significant importance of the completion of the Hardie Lane Reconstruction Project. Hardie Lane is a major north/south connector within the City and this has been on our list to reconstruct for many years,” said Mayor Roy Edgington. “We are very happy to see the increased safety road improvements especially around Fernley Elementary School and Fernley Intermediate School.” The City worked with several agencies including NDOT, USBR, NV Energy, Southwest Gas, AT&T, Charter, and Lyon County School District to complete this project. Mayor Edgington also noted, “There are many utility lines and pipes that lie under Hardie Lane. The City staff worked closely with many companies to get this done.”
