Mayor’s Message:
Mayor Todd Cutler is inviting Fernley residents to join together to shape the future of our city and produce visible change in our community. "So many people in Fernley give their hearts and souls to improve the city they love, the place they call home," said Mayor Cutler. "I want everyone to know that the City will do its part to support their efforts. I want to work directly with residents so that their priorities are heard. There is much to do — together."
The Mayor’s Citizen Advisory Team will bring together and mobilize the resources of government, business, nonprofits, the faith community, neighborhood leaders, and most importantly the residents themselves. The Mayor and his team members will build on existing plans, set realistic but aggressive timelines for visible results; align the Mayor’s and city’s priorities with citizen's priorities; and develop a strong working partnership that will provide long-term sustainability.
Mayor Cutler understands that citizen action requires a commitment of time and energy from many, many residents. This kind of citizen engagement in planning has been very successful in other cities. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to volunteer to serve on the Mayor’s Citizen Advisory Team, first by attending the monthly Coffee with the Mayor meetings and second by submitting a letter of interest addressed to Mayor Cutler at City Hall. Mayor Cutler will be selecting team members based on their participation in City activities and in their demonstrated commitment to our community. The Mayor’s Citizen Advisory Team is projected to begin in January 2008.
"Through teamwork, we will bring together a broad spectrum of our city residents, businesses, non-profits, and others," said Mayor Cutler. "We will build upon the work that so many have already done in our city. We will establish a vision for our city and develop a concrete plan to accomplish that vision. Finally, and most importantly, we will roll up our sleeves to come together, work together, succeed together."
Sincerely,
Mayor Todd Cutler

City Manager’s Update:
The City of Fernley is committed to keeping you informed on the quality of your drinking water and on our considerable progress to meet the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Act and to assure a safe and reliable source of water for our residents.
We remain dedicated to providing you with a safe and reliable supply of drinking water and are proud to provide Fernley residents with a project that will benefit many families and children for years to come. The City has designed the groundwater treatment plant with our residents in mind and an eye towards the future. The plant is designed first and foremost: 1) to comply with all federal, state and local, health and safety regulations; 2) to treat arsenic from the current levels, which average 50 parts per billion, to comply with the EPA standard of 10 parts or less per billion; and 3) to reduce Fernley’s dependency on outside water sources.
In the weeks ahead, construction of the water treatment plant will begin on the west side of Fernley at the end of Mesa Drive. Our thanks go out to all of the federal and state agencies who have helped us reach this point and we graciously ask the Fernley community for their patience during construction; the end result will pay off big time with clean water for current and future generations of Fernley. It's certainly worth the effort!
Fernley is destined to become one of the most effective and efficient municipally run water departments in Nevada.
