[ARCHIVED] Update from Mayor Edgington Regarding COVID-19, 5-15-2020

UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19, 5-15-2020

Hello Fernley, this is your Mayor, Roy Edgington with an important update regarding the Phase 1 re-opening for our state.

Over the last week, we have seen businesses start to re-open based on Governor Sisolak’s outline for Phase 1. Several guidelines and protocols were outlined for individuals and businesses, and this information is available in detail on the City’s webpage and our Facebook page, go to www.cityoffernley.org.

It has been wonderful to see our local businesses start to reopen, and our community support is a great testament to the spirit we have in Fernley. However, I do want to stress the importance of still following the social distance guidelines. Masks are still strongly encouraged in public and when around persons from other households. All Nevadans are encouraged to continue staying home and limiting trips outside of their homes to help mitigate the spread of the virus. Remember to maintain at least SIX FEET OF SOCIAL DISTANCING per person for non-household members at all times.

City parks, baseball and soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, skatepark, and open space areas/trails have opened to the public as long as users of the facilities are following these social distancing guidelines and do not congregate in groups of 10 or more persons. As of today, park equipment such as playground equipment, slides, and swings will remain closed.

At this time, City Hall will continue to be closed to the public for face-to-face business and all non-essential services, however, we are still open for business. As a reminder, all City Departments can be contacted over the phone or via e-mail. Please head to our website at www.cityoffernley.org where you can find a list of department phone numbers and email contacts.

The City Council has a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 20th, we will have an update for our residents at the meeting. You can listen live to the meeting by going to our website and clicking on “How Do I View Council Meeting.” Public comments and questions can be submitted before the meeting by emailing cityclerk@cityoffernley.org.

Just a reminder, if you have come in contact with an individual who tested positive for the virus, an individual must quarantine and stay at home for two weeks, or until a negative test result has been received. Also, if you have tested positive for the virus, an individual must QUARANTINE and stay at home for two weeks.

The Governor will be giving another update at 3pm today, please stay tuned for changes and additional information.

We ask that you continue social distancing, washing your hands, and practicing the other safety measures to remain safe and healthy. Please continue to be diligent in the recommended safety protocol, for your own health and your family’s health. Thank you for your time, stay safe and stay healthy.
