[ARCHIVED] UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19 - Message from Mayor Edgington

UPDATE REGARDING COVID-19

Hello Fernley, this is your Mayor, Roy Edgington with another update regarding the current state of affairs with the pandemic.

Over the last couple of weeks now, we have seen businesses start to re-open. It’s been refreshing to watch some of our local businesses reopen. Once again, the community support we show here in Fernley is unlike anywhere else. We have seen folks reach out to find out how they can support our students, our graduating seniors, our business owners. The heart and spirit of our residents is a great reminder even during these difficult times that if you look around you, there is still plenty of hope and positivity to be found.

And while we are continuing to follow the Governor’s guidelines and embrace the phase one reopening, I do want to stress the importance of still following the social distance guidelines. Masks are still strongly encouraged in public and when around persons from other households. All Nevadans are encouraged to continue staying home and limiting trips outside of their homes to help mitigate the spread of the virus. Remember to maintain at least SIX FEET OF SOCIAL DISTANCING per person for non-household members at all times.

At this time, City Hall is still closed to the public for face-to-face business and all non-essential services, however, we are still open for business. As a reminder, all City Departments can be contacted over the phone or via e-mail. Please head to our website at www.cityoffernley.org where you can find a list of department phone numbers and email contacts.

Just a reminder, if you have come in contact with an individual who tested positive for the virus, an individual must quarantine and stay at home for two weeks, or until a negative test result has been received. Also, if you have tested positive for the virus, an individual must QUARANTINE and stay at home for two weeks.

We ask that you continue social distancing, washing your hands, and practicing the other safety measures to remain safe and healthy. Please continue to be diligent in the recommended safety protocol, for your own health and your family’s health.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our residents about the importance of Memorial Day. While this year it may seem a little different as we are not gathering together, we must still remember the reason – Memorial Day is a time for all Americans as one to say thank you, we remember our fallen. We remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy our freedoms. Thank you for your time, stay safe and stay healthy.
