[ARCHIVED] Update from Mayor Edgington Regarding the Nevada Census

UPDATE REGARDING NEVADA CENSUS

Hello Fernley, this is your Mayor, Roy Edgington with an important message about the 2020 Nevada Census.  The census can be completed online, go to my2020census.gov – it only takes a few minutes, but it is vital to all Nevadans to ensure resources and funding for our future.

Many folks ask “Why is it important for me to participate?”  It is essential for every Nevadan to be counted in the 2020 Census to ensure that the federal government is meeting our needs here in Nevada.

There is more than $675 billion in federal funds, grants, and support to states, counties, and communities based on census data. That funding goes toward our schools, hospitals, roads, public works, and other vital programs.

Nevada has experienced a population boom in recent years, which is why it’s more important than ever that each and every Nevadan be counted.

Nevada will rely on the 2020 census to determine funding needs for infrastructure projects, economic development programs, job training, schools, and other activities for the next decade.

Again, head to my2020census.gov - Nevada matters, be counted!  And remember - The City of Fernley has challenged the City of Mesquite to see which city will come out on top in the 2020 Census.

Right now we are neck and neck, with Fernley showing a .1% lead over Mesquite.  Fernley has a 66.6% participation rate and Mesquite is at 66.5%.

Get counted now at census.nv.gov and help us reach 70% this week!  Thank you for your time, and please continue to stay safe and stay healthy.
